Applying Pain Science to Clinical Practice

Who is this course for?

The Applying Pain Science to Clinical Practice course will provide a therapist a better understanding of the biology and physiology of pain, and how to appropriately use this information when making decisions about the use of several different modalities in clinical practice.

Dry needling practitioners that looking for more comprehensive understanding on how to use dry needling and dry needling with electrical stimulation to manage a patient’s pain will benefit from taking this course.

As a therapist…

Are you dealing with patients that experience acute/chronic pain or have patients that are not responding to treatment modalities? This course deals with these two areas, but any therapist wanting to continue their education can benefit from this course.

The Applying Pain Science to Clinical Practice course will help the clinician better understand the biology and physiology behind pain, and how we can use this information to select appropriate clinical modalities to help manage pain in our varying patient populations.

Are you dealing with patients who experience acute or chronic pain?

Have you used several modalities with little or no consistent clinical outcomes for these patients? It’s important to recognize all three components of the biopsychosocial model and how they relate to the pain discussion. This course explores the biology or “bio” component, not the psychosocial aspects.

Become more effective on how to treat pain by having a better understanding of pain science, the science behind why people experience pain, and how to appropriately use different clinical modalities in order to manage pain. Explore common therapeutic modalities, including the use of dry needling and dry needling with electrical stimulation.

Do you generally get great results with pain management, however…

  • Have you had that patient that just doesn’t seem to be responding to your pain management techniques?
  • Have you used several modalities with little or no consistent outcomes for these patients?
  • Have you attached electrical stimulation to needles with inconsistent results?

Learn about…

  • The biology and physiology of pain science.
  • How the body influences pain perception.

What others have said about this course.

Great information for anyone dealing with patient pain and wanting to incorporate e-stim with your dry needling practice or without needles. Too often practitioners use the default settings on the machines without really manipulating what they can do – need to be more creative than what the default settings offer! Thanks for the research/review too!

I felt this online course covered content that is not usually discussed among athletic training content. I had to go back to my undergraduate therapeutic exercise course and review the information to truly understand, but once I reviewed the information and completed the course I remembered how valuable and necessary this information is for a comprehensive treatment plan.

Brian and Sue, great course! I loved the deep dive into neurophysiology, as I believe this is a key contributor to sports and athletic performance that is often overlooked.

This made me look at pain and pain management differently, in a practical way. I feel ready to begin applying it immediately.

This course is absolutely amazing. Sue and Brian have so much knowledge and having the ability to access their brains online is even easier for someone with a crazy schedule

I think that this was a great course and highly encourage others to take it. Best way to understand chronic pain management as well as how dry needling fits in as a modality option for these patients.
