About:Alyssa McPherson is a certified, licensed athletic trainer who works as an academic specialist in the Department of Kinesiology, School of Public Health at Indiana University. She is also the head athletic trainer for the IU Army ROTC, the IU Jacobs School of Music and Ballet Theater, the IU Contemporary Dance Department, and the IU Marching Hundred.
Previously, she completed the Certified Athletic Trainer Residency Program at Emory Sports Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Here, she supplied clinical evaluation, practice management, and first and second surgical assist to the orthopaedic and sports medicine surgeons. She also spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer to the IU Ballet Theater while completing her MS in the IU CAATE-Accredited Post-Professional Degree Program. Alyssa has a demonstrated interest in performing arts medicine as a whole, and has spent three full seasons with DCI drum corps, providing medical care while on nationwide tours. She continues to provide consultation and member education services to many other corps and performing arts groups.
Clinical specialties and interests include: dance medicine, performing arts medicine, physician extender, platelet-rich plasma, manual therapies, Graston technique, Pilates, Gyrotonics, paralympics/adaptive sports, femoroacetabular impingement, functional ankle instability, and chronic lower extremity injury.
