About: Emily Beyer is in her fifth season as team Physical Therapist for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. Beyer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the College of St. Benedict in 2005, where she played basketball as well as track and field. She obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the College of St. Catherine in 2009. In July 2010, she completed the Minnesota Sports Medicine Residency program where she was able to work with many of the local high school, college and professional teams in the Twin Cities. She became a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy in 2011. Emily worked as a sports physical therapist at the Institute for Athletic Medicine, Fairview at West Health and the University of Minnesota campuses until October 2014, when she joined Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine at Mayo Clinic Square in Minneapolis, where she currently works.
Beyer works closely with a number of the most respected team orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, sports physical therapists, and athletic trainers in the area to provide care to local high school, college and professional athletes. She works as the lead for the running performance program and is a specialist in the anterior cruciate ligament and return to sport programs at Mayo Clinic Square Sports Medicine Center in Minneapolis. She is collaborating locally and nationally on research regarding hip femoroacetabular impingement, hamstring, and anterior cruciate ligament injuries and has published on patellofemoral pain syndrome. She is an expert in athletes with hip, knee and shoulder injuries sustained in basketball, football soccer, track, volleyball, hockey, and dance. Beyer is a frequent presenter at sports medicine conferences both locally, regionally, and nationally at CSM and continues to serve as a faculty member for the Fairview Sports Medicine Residency.
Raised on a farm in Utica, Minnesota, Emily has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as a Sports Section Member since 2006. She currently lives in Plymouth and enjoys traveling, cabin weekends, spending time with her family and friends, playing sand volleyball, basketball, and running as well as watching or attending any and all sporting events.
