About: Obie Benavides begins his second year working as a full-time intern assistant athletic trainer for the Rice Athletics Department. Prior to Rice, he was a student athletic trainer at Texas Tech University- Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, working with two local high schools and Texas Tech football. He also did a summer internship with Texas A&M football. He earned his master of athletic training in May of 2014.
Benavides earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of North Texas in May of 2012. He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, as well as licensed by the state of Texas.
